Philosophy of Youth Ministry

Youth ministry exists to glorify God as it works in conjunction with the church’s mission statement. For this reason, the youth will be ministered to with the same Biblical principles that lead the congregational body at large. The mission statement of Faithway Baptist Church is as follows: spreading God’s fame for the sake of His name by making and maturing disciples through the ministry of His Word.

Following the church mission statement, the youth ministry exists to fulfill three objectives; exaltation of God, evangelization of unbelievers, and edification of believers.

I. The exaltation of God – The youth ministry seeks to glorify God in every aspect (1 Cor. 10:31; Col. 3:17)

a. Glorifying God with exegetical, expositional, and Biblical preaching (2 Tim. 4:1-3)

b. Glorifying God with Biblical, musical, worship that praises Him (Heb. 13:15; Col. 1:12; 3:15-17; Acts 16:25; Eph. 5:19)

c. Glorifying God with an emphasis on prayer (Eph. 3:20-21; 6:18-19; Phil. 4:6-7; Col. 4:2-3, 12; 1 John 1:9;

d. Glorifying God by directing our actions and activities towards the ultimate goal of conformity to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29)

II. The evangelization of unbelievers – The youth ministry endeavors to be a faithful witness to the unsaved by fulfilling the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20)

a. Reaching the lost through personal evangelism (Rom. 10:17; Luke 10:2; 1 Peter 3:15)

b. Reaching the lost through the preaching of God’s Word in planned outreach (activities, meetings in schools, mission trips, etc.) (Acts 9:22; 17:17; 18:4,28: 19:8-9)

III. The edification of believers – The youth ministry exists to edify young people and admonish their growth in the Lord (Col. 1:28)

a. Instruction through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word (Acts 20:20; Col. 1:28)

b. Instruction through Biblically training the youth in the daily “how to . . .”  of Christian living (e.g. devotions, prayer, witnessing, etc.) equipping them to train others also (2 Tim. 2:2-4)

c. Instruction through counseling and admonition (1 Thess. 5:14; Matt. 18:15-20; Gal. 6:1-4)

d. Edification through fellowship as we meet regularly for Church services and activities (Heb. 10:24-25)

The youth ministry exists to grow the youth in the church in unity and companionship with the rest of the church in a manner that is “worthy of the gospel” (Phil. 1:27). The youth ministry assists parents by coming alongside to partner with them to accomplish their God-given role of teaching and training their children the counsel of God.  The youth ministry exists to exalt Christ, “Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.” (Col. 1:28 KJV)
